Module 5: Making sense of sense making

I found Dervin's sense making methodology very interesting.  I agree with the notion that the information seeking or problem solving is a bit like a journey that has been interrupted by a cognitive gap.  The process starts with uncertainty.  Many facets of a person's personality are involved in the process.  How one perceives information, what is remembered from previous experiences, and even how one is feeling at the time of problem-solving, all take a role in the process.

Dervin's methodology seems to become almost a social activity in this process of making sense, as information is shared and we extract clues to determine what is relevant and will aid in the reduction of our uncertainty.  Our belief systems influence what information we believe to be relevant, and even what information we will pass along to others in the future, thus making it an ongoing process as well.

As a lifelong learner and perpetual student, Dervin's sense making methodology makes a great deal of sense to me.
